Testing

Follow Your Own Data

We offer indirect calorimetry to measure resting metabolic rate. To measure body composition, percent lean body mass and fat, we offer bioelectrical impedance testing using the InBody 570 machine. Body composition and metabolic rate testing are available at the San Francisco office.

Indirect Calorimetry
Measuring Resting Metabolic Rate

Indirect calorimetry measures resting energy expenditure (REE), also referred to as resting metabolic rate (RMR) by measuring oxygen uptake. Resting energy expenditure is the amount of energy a person burns in 24 hours when awake and at rest. For each calorie burned, a fixed amount of oxygen is consumed by the human body. Our traditional cart-style indirect calorimeter measures the amount of oxygen consumed over a short period of time and resting energy expenditure (REE) is calculated based on oxygen consumption. We use the ReeVue indirect calorimeter manufactured by Korr Medical Technologies, Inc.
